‘Roller Jam’ HBO Series Audio Description

Roller skates, big music, bigger energy—this series moves!

I recorded the audio description for Roller Jam, HBO’s six-episode competition where the top roller-skating crews from across the U.S. dance through the decades for a $150,000 prize and a $10,000 donation to their home rink.
Hosted by Jordin Sparks, with judges Johnny Weir and roller-skating legend Terrell Ferguson, the show is a blast—part dance, part sport, all heart.

Audio description is about bringing the visuals to life for audiences who are blind or have low vision.
For Roller Jam, that meant matching the show’s pace while staying precise.

I thread in the details between beats: costume reveals, synchronized spins, toe-stop tricks, near-misses that make the crowd gasp, and those triumphant finishes that bring everyone to their feet.

Each episode, crews build brand-new routines for Johnny, Terrell, and a rotating celebrity guest judge. The themes jump decades, so the look and feel keeps changing—’70s funk to ’90s hip-hop, retro rink lights to neon street vibes.
My job is to keep you oriented in that visual whirl: who’s leading the line, who’s lifting, who sticks a landing on four wheels at full speed.

The description stays clean and concise, letting the music and crowd energy do their job while you never miss a beat.

“I collaborated closely with the post team to lock timing, terminology, and consistency across episodes—so recurring teams, signature moves, and judging criteria are clear from the first heat to the finale.”

The tone stays upbeat while celebrating the athleticism and creativity on display, and giving space for the personal moments too, pre-performance huddles, quick cutaways to families in the stands, and that look when a crew knows they nailed it.

If you’re producing a competition series, doc, or live-event special and want audio description that feels seamless and show-ready, I bring broadcast-quality narration, direction-friendly sessions, and fast turnarounds.
Let’s make your project accessible and electric—so every listener can feel the glide, the groove, and the roar of the rink.
