My Voice Over Genres

After 13 years behind the mic and a client list spanning over more niches than I care to count, I’ve learned that doing everything isn’t the same as doing it well.
While I can handle just about anything, I now specialise in a handful of Voice Over areas, because being exceptional is far more interesting than being average at everything.

Commercial voiceover is all about making a brand stand out in a crowded marketplace, using the power of voice to communicate messages that inform, entertain, and inspire.

Narration voiceover is a versatile genre in the voice acting industry that involves a voice artist delivering spoken content to inform, explain, guide, or tell a story without appearing on camera.

Documentary voiceover is a narrative technique used in documentary filmmaking where a narrator’s voice provides context, insight, or commentary to the visuals presented on screen.

Audio description (also known as video description/described video) is a service that provides a spoken narration of visual elements in a media program or live event for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. It is primarily used for television, film, and other video content.

Automotive voice over refers to the use of voice narration in various media related to automobiles, including commercials, promotional videos, training materials, product demonstrations, specifically tailored to convey information about vehicles in a way that resonates with potential customers.

e-Learning voice over is a specialized genre focused on narrating educational and instructional content designed for digital delivery.
It is widely used in corporate training programs, employee onboarding, software tutorials, academic lessons, and continuing education platforms.

Podcast voice overs set the tone, frame the experience, and guide listeners before and after each episode. I think of it as your show’s handshake and farewell—short, memorable touchpoints that signal brand, mood, and what to expect.
