AARP “Bonding with the Boys” Commercial

This Commercial was a joy.

“Bonding with the Boys” is an AARP ( American Association of Retired Persons ) spot that follows three generations of African American men—grandfather, father and son, heading out to the movies together.

No big twist, no heavy plot. Just a simple, feel-good slice of life that hits in all the right places. Every time I see it, I think about hanging out with my Dad, grabbing popcorn, cracking jokes in the car, that easy rhythm you only get with family.

“From the first read, I knew the voice needed to stay warm and honest. Not fancy. Not “ad-y.”
Just a genuine, relaxed tone that lets the moment breathe.”

The script didn’t need me to sell anything! It needed me to support the “vibe”: laughter on the way to the theater, that little hand-in-hand moment with the kid, the look shared between father and son that says, “We’re doing okay.”

I leaned into a conversational pace, like you’re talking to a friend while the previews roll. What I love about this spot is how true it feels.

AARP sometimes surprises people – this wasn’t about benefits or paperwork; it was about moments that matter, across generations. The kind you don’t plan, but never forget. That’s what I tried to bring to the voice: warmth, a little nostalgia, and a steady confidence that says, “Hey, these are the good days.”
