This project stuck with me.
The ‘Stepping Up’ Initiative marked its 10-year anniversary, and I had the chance to voice their first explainer PSA.
The goal was simple but powerful: explain, in plain language, how people with mental illnesses end up in jail instead of getting care….and how communities can change that.
Heavy topic, but the message is hopeful and practical.
From the start, I knew the tone needed to be clear, compassionate, and steady. No hype. No finger-pointing.
Just a human voice walking you through the problem and the solution.
The script highlighted a tough reality—millions of people cycling through jails because mental health support isn’t available when and where it’s needed.
We focused on what counties can do: better screening, stronger connections to treatment, and real collaboration between law enforcement, courts, and healthcare.
In the booth, I kept it conversational and grounded, like talking with a neighbor who asked, “What’s Stepping Up?”
What I appreciated most about this spot is that it doesn’t just point out a problem—it shows a path forward.
It’s about dignity, safety, and doing what actually works. And it asks everyone—counties, providers, families—to be part of that solution.
As a voice actor, my job was to keep the focus where it belongs: on the people and the progress.
A clear read, an open tone, and a steady hand guiding the viewer from “why this matters” to “what we can do.”
If you need an explainer with heart and clarity, that’s my lane. Compassionate, credible, and built to move people to action.
In the video, we explore how the current system often fails those who need help the most. It’s not just about statistics; it’s about real lives and the stories behind those numbers. The goal is to shine a light on the need for change and inspire people to take action.
Being a part of this project was not just a job for me; it was a passion.
I believe in the mission of Stepping Up and the positive impact it can have on our communities.
Recording this PSA allowed me to lend my voice to a cause that resonates deeply with me, and I hope it encourages others to get involved.
So, here’s to the next chapter! I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to such an important initiative.
Let’s keep the conversation going …..and work together to support mental health awareness!
