‘Amityville: The Resurgence’ Documentary Narration

Amityville: The Resurgence (2022), directed by Billy Lewis and featuring paranormal investigator Sean Austin, revisits the infamous Amityville hauntings and the site of the 1974 DeFeo family murders.

The director reached out to me directly to narrate the project.

I’ll admit, paranormal isn’t my usual lane, so I was initially hesitant, but his passion for the story and the depth of the research won me over.

As I dug into the script, I saw exactly how my approach could serve the film: grounded, measured narration that brings viewers along on a compelling journey without sensationalizing the subject.

My process for this Documentary Narration:

  • Tone discovery: We aligned on a sober, investigative voice—curious and respectful, never lurid. The goal was to earn trust while sustaining tension.
  • Script collaboration: I reviewed the script for clarity, pacing, and transitions, flagging lines where a pause or emphasis could heighten the viewer’s sense of discovery.
  • Session workflow: I recorded multiple passes for key sections—one more clinical, one more intimate—so editorial could choose what best matched the cut and score.
  • Technical polish: Treated booth, consistent mic placement, clean gain staging, and precise breath/noise management to ensure seamless edits across pickups.

Delivery:
Alternate reads for sensitive passages to keep the narrative balanced.
What changed my mind was the story’s intention. This wasn’t about jump scares; it was about context, investigation, and the human element behind a cultural phenomenon.

Bringing my own style, calm authority with a steady build, helped invite the audience into that journey of discovery.
In the end, it became a project I’m proud of: nuanced narration, on brand, on time, on point.
